PIERCE — The Hadar Handy Helpers 4-H Club was presented the 2024 Pierce County Fair Outstanding Persons Award during the award ceremonies held Friday evening during the Pierce County Fair.

The award is presented annually to an individual or group that has been involved with the fair for an extended period of time.

The Hadar Handy Helpers have provided a great service to the fair since the early 1990s. Early every morning during fair week, the Hadar Handy Helpers, youth and adults, pick up cans around the entertainment area and collect trash so the grounds are presentable and ready for the events of that day.

During the award presentation, Ag Society President Jim Herian added, 'You can't imagine how much the directors appreciate this effort!'

The Hadar area 4-H club has been in existence in one form or another since 1947. It has been known as the Happy Day 4-H Club, the Hadar Horsemen, Hadar's Lads and Lassies, and the Hadar Handymen. The club today in known as the Hadar Handy Helpers.

In 2013, and 2017, the club received grants to help their community. Members have cleaned and painted shelves and display cases in the 4-H Fair Center and donated an AED to the fairgrounds.

They donated an engraved rock at the Hadar Park and have donated to people in need.

The club uses the proceeds from cleaning the fairgrounds and selling the cans for various adventures, such as, learning CPR, and being taught to Stop the Bleed.

The Hadar Handy Helpers 4-H Club currently has 11 members. Their leaders are Terri Sudbeck, Jennie Kolterman, and Callie Ruge.
