OSMOND — A new staff member has joined the team at Osmond Community School. Erin Braun is the new third grade teacher. She has provided the following short biography.

Erin Braun

My name is Erin (Schroeder) Braun.

I will be teaching third grade.

I grew up in Wayne. My mom still lives in the house she and Dad bought when I was 2. (Side note: My parents taught in Osmond their first two years out of college, in the early 70s, and I was born here a couple of summers after that.)

My husband Shawn is a regional director for a renewable energy company and does a lot of traveling in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. I also have two grown kids.

My youngest, Ty, just graduated from Ft. Hays State in Kansas and is starting her first year as a speech pathology assistant over in Macy. My son Jasper is finishing up his six-year contract in the US Navy. He’s a jet mechanic and recently came back (Continued on Page 4, No. 2) ERIN BRAUN JOINS STAFF AT OSMOND PUBLIC SCHOOL to his base in Virginia with the USS Eisenhower, after they served nearly 10 months protecting trade routes in the Red Sea. He and his fiance are busy planning a wedding.

Additionally, I have a stepson, Nathan and his wife, Kilie, who live in Victoria, KS, as well as a stepdaughter who lives and works in Manhattan, KS.

I did my undergrad in elementary education and early childhood at Chadron State. I always say it was as far from home as I could get without paying out of state tuition. Addition- ally, last year I finished my masters as a reading specialist at Ft. Hays State, in Hays, KS.

I started out my teaching career in the 1990s, in a one-room, K-8 country school, out in the western Sandhills. Since then, I’ve taught the “middle room,” (second/third/fourth combined) in the Haigler elementary school in the Dundy County school system, as well as subbing kindergarten through 12th. I’ve also taught middle school math in Wray, CO, was the second, then fifth, grade classroom teacher in St. Francis, KS, and was the 7-12th reading interventionist in Victoria, KS.

I enjoy home construction projects, sewing and quilting, and reading.

I’m looking forward to teaching in Osmond. I’ve only taught in small and really small schools, so when life brought me home to northeast Nebraska, I was so excited to see Osmond had an opening. Osmond has been known as a good school for as long as I can remember. I’m so glad to have been given the opportunity to be part of it.
