A Time to Give Thanks

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's a good time to reflect on the concept of giving thanks as taught in the Bible. Throughout Scripture, we are reminded again and again of the importance of gratitude.

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's a good time to reflect on the concept of giving thanks as taught in the Bible. Throughout Scripture, we are reminded again and again of the importance of gratitude.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, the Apostle Paul writes, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” This simple yet profound instruction reminds us that giving thanks isn’t just for the good times, but for all times. Whether we are in seasons of plenty or times of trial, we are called to lift our hearts in thanksgiving to God.

Central to our thanksgiving is the greatest gift of all: the salvation we have in Jesus Christ. On the cross, Christ took on our sin, conquered death, and brought us new life. Through His resurrection, we have the promise of eternal life.

This is the bedrock of our Christian faith and the foundation for our thanksgiving. No matter what happens in this world, we can always give thanks for the unshakable hope we have in our Savior. In this, we find a deep and abiding peace.

We are also blessed in so many ways as citizens of the United States. We enjoy freedoms that many people around the world can only dream of — freedom to worship, freedom of speech, and the freedom to live our lives in relative peace and security.

As we gather with loved ones this Thanksgiving, let’s remember to give thanks for the privilege of living in a nation where these freedoms are upheld, and where we can express our faith without fear of persecution.

Alongside these blessings, we give special thanks for the men and women who serve and protect our country - our military and first responders. Whether it's a soldier standing guard far from home or a local firefighter rushing to the scene of an emergency, these individuals sacrifice their time, energy, and sometimes even their lives for our safety. We owe them a debt of gratitude and should continually lift them up in prayer, asking for their protection and well-being.

On a more personal level, Thanksgiving is also a time to express our gratitude for the people in our lives — our friends and family. Here in Osmond, we are part of a close-knit community where neighbors look out for one another, and friendships span generations.

We are truly blessed to live in a town where the spirit of togetherness and care for each other is so strong. Let us give thanks for this special community, for the warmth of our relationships, and for the joys we share together as friends and family.

As you gather around your Thanksgiving table this year, whether it is with family or friends, I encourage you to take a moment to pause and reflect on the many blessings you’ve been given. Thank God for His provision, for the gift of salvation in Christ, and for the people who fill your life with love and joy.

May your Thanksgiving be a time of peace, reflection, and gratitude!
