The Osmond Lady Tigers had a busy week again last week, playing three games during that time.
Osmond vs. NGSE
OSMOND — It all started when the newly-formed co-op this year of the Newman Grove-St. Edward Panthers came to town on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
In a very competitive first quarter, the Tigers took a 14-12 lead at the first buzzer thanks to a Charley Aschoff 3 -pointer as time expired. The Tigers were able to play solid defense the next two quarters, holding NG/SE to only 13 total points scored in the middle frames, as Osmond would extend their lead going into halftime up 30-17.
With the defense holding strong in the third quarter yet, the Tiger offense was able to create more opportunities to extend their lead further heading into the final quarter, 43-25. A strong push late by NG/SE in the fourth quarter just wasn't enough as Osmond was still able to outpace them and secure the victory on the home court, winning 58-36.
A very balanced scoring attack for Osmond was key as Osmond had five players scoring in the 8-12 point range, led by Charley Aschoff's team-high 12 points. Charley was also able to come away with 7 steals on the night.
Kaleigh Miller almost completed a double-double with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Carrie Kumm was almost there as well as she finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Sophia Gansebom found the net for 11 points and sent away 3 Panther shots. Erin Wagner complimented her 9 points by dishing out a team high 5 assists in the effort. Every single Osmond player was able to record a stat and contribute to the win.

OSMOND — The Stuart Broncos came to Osmond on Thursday night, Jan. 16, in a varsity only match-up. An emphasis this week was having a good start to games and Osmond was able to have the lead after the first quarter in back-to-back games now, leading Stuart slightly with a 9-8 advantage after the first period of play.
Stuart used an aggressive second
quarter to convert a couple of Osmond turnovers into baskets, and shot effi - ciently in the quarter as well knocking down a couple of 3s to score 20 points in the quarter and take a 28-20 lead into halftime.
A cold third quarter for the Tigers saw the Broncos extend their lead out to 36-20 at one point in the third quarter before Osmond finally got a basket to fall in the stanza, but Stuart held a commanding 36-22 lead going into the final quarter.
The Tigers never gave up and were able to close the gap to a 39-35 score with about two minutes left in the game. Unfortunately it was not enough and Stuart was able to hang on to win by a final score of 40-35.
Anytime a team gives up 20 points in a quarter and can only respond by scoring 2 points of their own the very next quarter, that's a tough challenge to try to win a game. The coaches were very proud of the effort and determination the team put on the court to come back and make it a two possession game at the end after trailing by as much as 16 at one point.
Despite the loss, Kaleigh Miller posted a career-high of 17 points on an efficient 54% shooting night. Kaleigh also led the team with 8 rebounds.
Erin Wagner dished out 6 assists, and Sophia Gansebom came away with 3 steals on the night.

WAKEFIELD — On Saturday,
Jan. 18, Osmond visited Wakefield, home of the Trojans, for an afternoon
double-header.
In varsity action, Wakefield was able to hold a 13-7 lead after the first quarter of play. Wakefield had extended their lead up to 18-7 before Osmond was able to score in the second quarter. For about the first 6 minutes of the second quarter, Osmond was not able to find the bottom of the net with their shots, but scored 7 points in the final minute and a half of the quarter. The late push brought the score to 18-14 in favor of the Trojans.
The defense from the Tigers gave
up only 6 points to Wakefield in the third quarter, as Osmond was able to score 9 points themselves to bring the game within 1 point going into the final quarter; 24-23 advantage Wakefield. It turns out that Wakefield would not score at all during the final 12 minutes of the game when they last scored at the 4:15 mark in the third quarter. Osmond would take the lead in the final period and come away
with the 33-24 victory against the class C1 Trojans.
Freshman Korrine Moes would lead the Tigers in scoring on the day with 9 points. Kaleigh Miller pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, 9 of which came in the first half. Sophia Gansebom served out a team high 5 assists.
“In a game that we did not shoot very well in, it was good to see the te am still have the confidence in them selves to continue shooting the ball and get those opportunities to score,” said Coach Bradley Wright. “In the end, that's what mattered when we kept shooting and were able to force our opponents into turnovers instead of shot attempts.”
