OSMOND — Kayla Hoffman, owner and stylist of Sunrise Salon, is celebrating her 20th year in business this month. Kayla opened the doors to her business on Feb. 15, 2005.
In those 20 years, she has seen many hair trends come and go. She said it’s amazing at all the hair color and cuts she has seen and done over the years to keep fashion trendy!
She has cut back on hours and services in recent years, she explained, because of shoulder, wrist and hand problems. “After 23 years in the hair industry, it does take a toll on the body!” she said.
She works three days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. She loves doing hair part-time and enjoys all her clients and friends that keep her business hopping, she said.
She also has been a jazzercise instructor in Plainview for 10 years, teaching classes there 2-3 times a week, and also does volunteer work at her church, St, Mary’s in Osmond.
Kayla received her training at Bahner College of Hair Design in Fremont, graduating in 2002. She then moved to Norfolk and worked in a salon for two years.
Kayla (Forbes) Hoffman, daughter of Doug and Judy Forbes, grew up in Brunswick and went to school in Plainview, graduating in 2001. On Oct SUNRISE SALON CELEBRATING 20 YEARS IN BUSINESS 4, 2003, she married Terry Hoffman of Osmond. The couple bought his grandpa’s house in town and decided to add a salon to the back of the house. The salon was built by Terry, Kayla, and their family members and friends.
“It took just over a year to build, but on Feb 15, 2005, I was open for business!”
Her husband Terry, has worked in Norfolk at Continental in industrial maintenance for 24 years. The couple has three children: Callie is in her first year at Wayne State College majoring in business marketing, Piper is a junior at Osmond High School, and Emmett is in seventh grade at St. Mary’s School in Osmond.
Kayla thanks everyone for a great 20 years of business. She said Osmond has been her home for over 20 years and she is so thankful for all the love and support the community has shown her! Her business has thrived because of those amazing people that have become more like family to her!
