Pierce County Republican Party plans 'flamingo fundraiser'

PIERCE — The Pierce County Republican Party held its monthly meeting at the Pierce American Legion on Thursday, March 6.

A Zoom meeting was planned for all members who were interested on March 10 at 7 p.m. The District 3 representative, Chris Vail, along with the Nebraska GOP Political Director Joe Hagerty, hosted the online meeting. Several area county party members joined in an effort to learn strategies to grow the membership of each group.

The State Central Committee will meet in Kearney on Saturday, March 22. State Chairman Eric Underwood will not be running for chair. The State Central Committee will vote on his replacement and will also vote on various amendments, resolutions and rules to be adopted by the state party. Any registered Nebraska Republican can attend to watch the proceedings but only delegates will be able to vote.

The Nebraska Republican Party relies heavily on grassroots funding. The state has set a fundraising goal, with a challenge to each county party. Pierce County Chairman Bradley Lewon organized a sub-committee that met Feb. 27.

From this meeting, a "Flamingo Fundraiser" was organized. Plastic flamingoes will be placed at homes and businesses in Pierce with information explaining how the birds can be re-located for a nominal donation.

Insurance can also be purchased to ensure the flock does not return to that property and the donor can choose the next recipient of the flock. The group hopes to expand this fundraiser to other communities in the county in future years, if more manpower becomes available.

In addition, an online Facebook auction will be held. The highest bidder will be given the opportunity to exterminate a portion of the flock using tannerite. For more information, go to “Pierce County, NE Republican Party” on Facebook.
