Tigers win medals at Creighton invitational, compete in conference meet

The Tiger track and field teams were busy last week with a meet at Creighton and the conference meet in Winnebago.

Creighton Invitational

CREIGHTON — On Tuesday, April 29, the Creighton invitational was held. Almost perfect weather greeted the athletes, and the Osmond athletes took full advantage.

Top finisher for the Tigers was sophomore Mason True, who earned four medals on the day. Mason won the 400 meters with his fastest time of the season of 55.2, and teammate Caleb Vinson was third in 56.6, also his best time. Mason was also fourth in the 200 meters in 25.6. He was also part of two scoring relay teams.

Senior Jaxon Vinson raced to a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters in a good time of 2:17.8 with Caleb Vinson sixth in 2:21.6. Jack Berg earned a pair of medals in the distance

races. He finished fifth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:22.9 and was sixth in the 1,600 meters in his best time of 5:28.6.

In the field, Kaleb Gardner placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17 ft., 7.5 in., which is his best ever, and freshman Easton Steinkraus earned a medal in the triple jump with a distance of 34 ft., 3.75 in., good for sixth place.

The boys had two relay teams do very well. The 1,600-relay team of Caleb Vinson, Jaxon Vinson, Kaleb Gardner and True came from behind to take second place in a nice time of 3:54.8. The 400-relay team of Donovan Heiman, Jaxon Vinson, Steinkraus and True raced to a third- place finish in a time of 50.1.

On the girls’ side of the meet, freshman Korrine Moes was the top medal winner. She placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 29 ft.,

2 in. This is her best effort of the season. Later she ran her fastest time in the 300 hurdles of 59.5 for a fifthplace finish. Deanna Kumm earned a fifth-place medal in the 3,200 meters. She covered the distance in 16:44.4.

The girls also placed sixth in the 400-relay. The team of Addison Miller, Adyson Poellot, Moes and Carriana Kumm finished in a time of 59.9.

“Our teams competed well and earned medals,” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. “They continue to improve.”

The meet was different this year as five schools had left for new conferences. The Homer girls and Creighton boys were champions.

The Tigers' best finish was Caleb

Vinson in the 800 meters. Caleb cruised to fourth place in a very good time of 2:10.76 which is a little less than 6 seconds faster than his seasons best time. Jaxon Vinson just missed placing as he was seventh but bettered his best time this season by about two seconds at 2:16.65. The 1,600-relay team also finished

fourth with Caleb and Jaxon being joined by Noah Geneski and True.

Their time was 3:54.48, best time so far. The 400-relay team collected sixth place medals. They covered the lap in 50.11. Team members were Geneski, Jaxon Vinson, Heiman, and True.

Other Tigers close to placing were Mason True, seventh in the 400 meters; Jack Berg, seventh in both the 3,200 and 1,600 meters, and Geneski, eighth in the 300 hurdles.

Korrine Moes made the finals of the triple jump but finished in seventh

place. The girls’ 400-relay team was just out of the medals as they were seventh.

Osmond will travel to Laurel on Thursday, May 8, for the Jim Winch Invitational.
