“The Last Russian Doll” by Kristen Loesch — In a faraway kingdom, in a long-ago land...

...a young girl lived happily in Moscow with her family: a sister, a father, and an eccentric mother who liked to tell fairy tales and collect porcelain dolls. One summer night, everything changed, and all that remained of that family were the girl and her mother. Now, a decade later and studying at Oxford University, Rosie has an English name, a loving fiancé, and a promising future, but all she wants is to understand — and bury — the past. After her mother dies, Rosie returns to Russia, armed with little more than her mother’s strange folklore — and a single key. What she uncovers is a devastating family history that spans the 1917 Revolution, the siege of Leningrad, Stalin’s purges, and beyond. At the heart of this saga stands a young noblewoman, Tonya, as pretty as a porcelain doll, whose actions — and love for an idealistic man — will set off a sweeping story that reverberates across the century....

Adult Non-Fiction “What Happens Next: A Traveler’s Guide Through the End of This Age,” by Nicholas Jubber — Be Prepared, Not Scared. Are we living in the end times? If so, what does that mean for you? In contrast to the confusion and anxiety that often comes with this topic, Max Lucado believes God wants us to be prepared, not scared; informed, not intimidated. He writes: “The future is not frightening if you know the future. And you can know the future when you know who holds it.” What Happens Next is an optimistic, accessible, and nonsensational guide to what the Bible says about heaven’s time line that will empower you to face the future with faith. Max takes you on a well-researched overview of what God’s Word says, exploring the following four big ideas that provide a solid foundation for understanding God’s eternal plan: 1) We were made to reign with Christ. 2) God has made and will keep his promises. 3) Heaven has a time line. 4) A golden era — the millennium — awaits God’s children. Plus, Max takes you on a journey of the time line of history, examining essential milestones such as the rapture, the seven years of tribulation, and the glory of heaven. Whether you find yourself in the "I can't wait," “I’m almost ready,” or “I’m not sure about all of this” camp, you will be encouraged to ponder God’s promises for the future. In Max’s signature encouraging style, he reminds us, “It’s all about hope. It’s all about him.”

“Major: A Soldier Dog,” by Trevor Jones — Would you give up your pet to save your country? During WWII, the U.S. Military established the Fort Robinson War Dogs Training Center in western Nebraska, training over 17,000 “dogs for defense” and deploying them to battlefields and installations all over the world. This book tells the incredible story of the War Dog program as seen through the eyes of Major, a World War Two soldier dog. At the beginning of the program, without a ready supply of dogs to train, the U.S. government asked civilians throughout the region to volunteer their dogs for service. Thousands answered the call, and their pets served our country courageously as guards, scouts, messengers, sled runners, and more. Told from the point of view of Major, a border collie based on a real dog from North Dakota, Major: A Soldier Dog tells the incredible story of the War Dog program through his eyes, following him through the heartbreaking separation from his family, the training at Fort Robinson, his harrowing war service in Italy, his return home for detraining and discharge, and finally the wonderful reunion with his family.
