The annual Jim Winch invitational was held on Thursday, May 8, at the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Sports Complex. The Tigers scored well in the very warm weather.
Caleb Vinson earned a gold medal in the 800 meters as he passed his brother Jaxon on the second lap after Jaxon led the first. Caleb was clocked at 2:13.95 and Jaxon 2:15.68. In the 400 meters, Osmond scored two runners. Mason True was third and Caleb Vinson was fourth. Mason covered the lap in 55.57 and Caleb in 57.46. Mason was also fourth in the 200 meters in a time of 25.34.
Jack Berg finished third and fourth in the distance races. Jack was third in the 3,200 meters in 12:04.94 and was fourth in the 1,600 meters in 5:33.28.
Noah Geneski placed fifth in both of his hurdle races. Noah cleared the 110 high hurdles in a time of 18.57 and the 300 hurdles in 47.68.
Donovan Heiman just missed placing in the 300 hurdles at seventh place.
In the field events, Kaleb Gardner made the finals in both the long jump and the discus, but did not place. Easton Steinkraus made the triple jump finals but did not place.
The Tiger relay teams both scored. The 1,600-relay team was runner-up with their best time of the season of 3:50.45. Team members were Caleb Vinson, Jaxon Vinson, Geneski and True. The 400-relay team finished in fourth place also in a season’s best time of 49.09 with team members Geneski, Jaxon Vinson, Heiman and True.
The girls’ top scorer was Korrine Moes. Korrine finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in her best time of 58.17. She was also fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 27-5.75.
This meet had a throwers relay, and the Tigers did well. The team of Adyson Poellot, Deanna Kumm, Addison Miller and Klaire Johnson earned a fourth-place finish as they passed a toothpick around the track in 1:06.30.
The 400-relay team also finished in fifth place as team members Miller, Poellot, Moes and Carriana Kumm ran the lap race in a time of 59.89.
“We did a nice job and had fun doing it though the warm weather was tough on our distance runners. I was proud of everyone’s effort. Now on to the district meet this Wednesday at Humphrey,” noted Coach Joe Ortmeier.
