Memorial Day program is on Monday

OSMOND - The sacrifices made by those who served their country to maintain its freedoms will be remembered on Monday, May 26. Memorial Day services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Osmond Community School gym. A mock cemetery will be set up on the lawn on the east side of the school grounds.

The program is under the auspices of American Legion Post 326, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 326, and the Legion and VFW auxiliaries.

Logan McClelland

Logan McClelland was born and raised in central Illinois on a livestock and crop farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and served three years as a Vietnamese interpreter. Upon completion of service, he attended Western Illinois University and received a bachelor of science degree in animal science. He then attended the University of Missouri and received a master of science degree in beef nutrition and management. Upon completion of graduate school, he worked for a major food

company in the Texas panhandle as a feedlot nutritionist for two years. He then went into feedlot management at a 10,000-head feed yard located near Guymon, OK. For the next 25 years, he managed several feed yards with capacities up to 27,000 head in Texas and Nebraska. In 1995, he went into business as a consultant specializing in feed yard business management, fed and feeder cattle marketing, and risk management of feeder and fed cattle. During this time, he served for five years as executive director of the Nebraska Corn-Fed Beef program, a branded beef program for Nebraska beef producers and members of the Nebraska Cattlemen Association. He is a past president of Nebraska Cattlemen.

Students to Speak

Other speakers at Monday’s program will be Piper Hoffman and Donovan Heiman, who will read their winning essays from the American Legion Auxiliary’s Americanism Essay Contest.

A roll call of departed Legion and auxiliary members will also take place. Music will be provided by the Osmond High School band and OHS choir. The program will conclude on the lawn east of the school where a wreath will be placed on the cross of the unknown, a firing salute will be given and “Taps” will be played by Donovan Heiman.
