OMAHA — Friday and Saturday, May 23 and 24, were the State Class C and D meet at Omaha Burke Stadium. The Osmond Tigers were represented by sophomore Caleb Vinson in the Class D 800 meters on Saturday.
Caleb started in row two of the first heat. At the start, he got out well in the middle of the pack, staying off the inside line and not getting boxed
in. He ran a 62.2 first lap split. On the final turn, he made his move and opened up his stride as did the field. He was closing on Owen Janitscheck of
Pleasanton but was out-leaned by .19 of a second. Calebs time was 2:10.82 for 10th place in his heat and 22nd overall. This was his second fastest time ever by .06 of a second.
"I thought Caleb ran a very good race, good pace and stayed out of trouble," noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. "I was proud that he ran nearly his fastest time on the Burke track. That’s not easy for a young athlete in those surroundings!
He and his teammates should really improve next year and I'm excited to see what they will accomplish."
