PIERCE — The Republican Party of Pierce County met Tuesday, May 6, at the Pierce Public Library.
The local party hosted a guest speaker for the evening, Roy Zach, of the Stanton County Republican Party and a leader in the state petition drive called “Choose Life Now.”
Zach explained that the current amendment, 434, which passed in the last general election, bans abortion after 12 weeks gestation. The “Choose Life Now” petition seeks to replace 434 with a total abortion ban in the state. Approximately 140,000 signatures are needed to place the resolution on the ballot in November 2026.
After the presentation, the group made plans for upcoming meetings and events. The party plans to host a “Meet Your County Officials” program, inviting one of two elected officials to speak at each monthly meeting. Plans were also made for upcoming events, including the Pierce County Fair and the Highway 20 Car Show.
The next regular meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. in the Pierce library. Information on the Pierce County GOP can be found on the Facebook page “Pierce County, NE Republican Party.”
