12-and-under softball team headed to state

OSMOND — The 12-and-under softball team, coached by Joel Kumm, will be playing in the Class D softball tournament, to be held this weekend, July 11-13.

They finished second in their league tournament and their record is 12 and 5 on the year.

The team started off the season with a 20 to 6 win against Stanton on May 15, followed by a 15-4 win against Verdigre on May 27 and an 8-5 win against Laurel on May 29.

On June 6, the team fell to Battle Creek 1-3, then also lost to Atkinson 1-5 on June 7.

The girls then won their next two games, 12-8 over Wausa on June 10 and 4-3 over Verdigre on June 12.

The league tournament was held in Osmond on Sunday, June 15. The Osmond girls first played Hartington and won 4-1 before losing to Randolph 11-12.

They then won their next three games: 6-2 vs. Wakefield, 10-2 vs. Winside and 5-2 vs. Randolph. In the championship game, they fell to Crofton 8-9 to take second place.

On June 17, Osmond played Hartington and won 12-10, and on June 19, they played Wausa and won 8-2.

On June 24, the girls played Wakefield and lost 6-9, before coming back on July 3 and defeating Neligh 10-5.

The team had one game left to play on Tuesday night before heading into state competition on Friday, July 11.
