PIERCE — The Hall of Fame Award for 2025, presented on Friday, July 25, went to Larry and Karen Foster. The following was read during the presentation: The Hall of Fame Award began in 1983 when the award was given posthumously to the late Irvin Schomberg, long time fair booster.
A plaque was presented to the family and his picture has been hung in the Hall of Fame area of the 4-H Center as is each year’s recipients. Nominations are evaluated by the Hall of Fame Committee and the executive board of the Pierce County Agriculture Society.
Growing up on the family farm near Plainvew and participating in FFA in high school and then getting married, they started their own family farm of cattle, sheep, swine, row crop and hay ground.
While one was busy on the farm and the other teaching school, they man- aged to help all five of their children through 4-H and FFA for numerous years, either showing livestock, making projects, sewing or cooking at county and state levels, and were involved in many local organizations.
They served as leaders of the local 4-H club and have been members of the Pierce County Ag Society for over 30 years.
They have helped with the cattle shows for many years and now enjoy watching their many grandkids participate in 4-H and FFA, along with many sporting events throughout the year.
Maybe you remember Larry lining up cattle for the next class to go in the ring and Karen announcing the placings or hearing her voice over the intercom with announcements. Recently Karen has enjoyed judging home environment projects at area county fairs.
This year the Hall of Fame Award goes to Larry and Karen Foster, if you can help in thanking them for their continued support towards agriculture and their long-time dedication to the Pierce County Fair.
