OSMOND — The new Osmond electronic sign, which has been in the planning stages for some time now, has been placed on the south edge of Osmond, across Highway 20 just south of State Street.
The sign is the result of the collaboration of the City of Osmond and Osmond Community School. At the 2022 Osmond High School Reunion, guest speaker Terry McClain challenged the community to establish two funds — one for the city and one for the school. The McClains matched the first $10,000 raised for each fund.
Later that year, as the goal for the school was reached and the city fund was almost reached, it was an- nounced that city and school officials were discussing a joint project of an electronic sign.
Committees were formed for each entity, and after many months of discussions on the type of sign, and time spent making decisions on where to place the sign and then getting permits, the sign is now in place.
In addition to the date, time and temperature that are currently displayed, the sign will include upcoming events for the city and school, once those officials receive the training necessary to input information.
