Lesser retires after 50 years with county fair
Extension Agent Ann Fenton (left) congratulates Sharon Lesser on her retirement

PIERCE — As one of the awards presented on Friday, July 25, at the Pierce County Fair, Extension Agent Ann Fenton honored Sharon Lesser, who retired this year after 50 years as a superintendent at the fair, with both 4-H and open class exhibits.

Fenton commented, “She has been awesome! Fifty years ago, Henry Kumpost asked if she would be the superintendent of cats and dogs. She didn’t know very much about dogs, so she agreed to do only cats. She has had a variety of helpers over the years, including Sharon Johnson who was with her for many years. She wanted to quit this year, but I realized [if she stayed] she would have 50 years as a superintendent. So I asked her to do one more year and Sharon agreed.”
