Where She Grows: Girl Scouts invites girls, volunteers to join movement this fall

This fall, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska invites girls across the state to begin their year of growth, friendship, and leadership. From campouts and crafts to advocacy and entrepreneurship, Girl Scouts is where girls grow into changemakers and where caring adults grow alongside them.

Whether you live in a bustling city or a quiet rural community, there’s a place for you at Girl Scouts.

“Our program is designed to meet girls where they are and take them further,” said Sarah Waldman, CEO of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska. “It’s not just about cookies or crafts, although we love those. It’s about helping girls become bold, curious, confident leaders who care about their communities and the world.”

More Than You Think: Leadership, Travel, Advocacy, and More Girl Scouts is where girls grow through friendship, fun, and fearless exploration, building skills, confidence, and lasting connections. It offers a wide range of experiences across four pillars: STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship, opening the doors for girls of all backgrounds, ages, and interests. Opportunities include: Travel across Nebraska, the country, and even internationally through Girl Scout Destinations The Girl Empowerment Series - designed to uplift and inspire girls through hands-on leadership training, guest speakers, and identity-affirming programs Legislative Day at the Nebraska State Capitol - girls learn how advocacy works and speak directly with political leaders Entrepreneurship through the Girl Scout Cookie and Fall Product Programs - girls develop real-world business skills like goal setting, budgeting, and customer service STEM and outdoors programs that grow courage, creativity, and curiosity “Whatever a girl is into—science, art, civic engagement, exploring nature— she'll find her people and her passion here," said Waldman. "There truly is something for everyone.”

The Power of Volunteers

None of it is possible without volunteers. More than ever, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is encouraging caring adults to step up and lead troops or offer support in other ways. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, teacher, or community member, you can make a lasting impact.

“We’ve heard from older girls who loved their Girl Scout experience but had to leave when their troop leader stepped down. That’s something we can change,” said Waldman. “With tools like our new Daisy and Brownie Experience Boxes, which provide 16 complete troop meetings, starting a troop has never been easier.”

Volunteers receive full training, support from council staff, and the joy of watching girls grow into leaders.
