PIERCE — The August meeting of the Pierce County Republican Party was held Aug. 1st at the Pierce Public Library.
Those working the county fair reported another successful year in the booth, meeting and talking to county residents, as well as collecting signatures for the "Choose Life Now" petition which aims to end all abortions in Nebraska.
As part of a series to educate the members and the public about local and state officials, the group welcomed Pierce County Clerk Shannon Wragge. Clerk Wragge had been in office since 1987. Her duties include register of deeds, election commissioner and county clerk. She also serves as secretary for the county commission. Clerk Wragge said her favorite of these duties is serving as election commissioner. Records of all elections are kept on mi - crofilm. Wragge reported there are 4,983 voters registered in Pierce County; 3,764 of those are Republican voters.
In 1994, the State of Nebraska supplied the first vote counting machines.
Votes in Pierce County have been counted by machine since. In the national 2024 election, the Secretary of State ordered that random counties be selected to hand count results. Pierce County was selected to be part of this group. Pierce County Republican Party Chairman Brad Lewon was chosen to be
part of this process.
For the September meeting, Sherry Jones of the Nebraska State School Board, will speak. Mrs. Jones is the District 6 representative whose term expires in January of 2027. Jones has been a strong, conservative voice on the Board and says the state needs “education that is protective of children’s hearts, minds and bodies, in line with the will of parents, and mindful of the resources provided by taxpayers." The meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Pierce Public Library at 7 p.m. The public is invited and welcome to attend. In October at the regular meeting, Carson Clayton is scheduled to speak on behalf of Congressman Adrian Smith. Smith represents District 3 which includes a portion of Pierce County. The remainder of the county is represented by Congressman Mike Flood.
