Third graders share experiences during Fire Prevention Week

OSMOND — Third grade students at Osmond Community School spent the week of Oct. 6-10 learning about fire prevention and safety. One of the highlights of their week was the

annual trip to the fire station and the ride on the fire trucks.

The students have shared their thoughts about their week here. ————— If you are on fire you should stop drop and roll.Yesterday we got to ride on the fire trucks on the way to the fire hall and the way to school. I don't know that fire trucks do different jobs, like grass rigs are for grass fires and pumper rigs hold the water. We got to try on the firefighter's coats. The orange one is for building fires and the green one is for grass fires.

Firefighters wear light coats for wildfires and heavy coats for house fires. Fire trucks go to 65 mph. Best of all, fire trucks have lever windows!

and call 911, but don’t go inside at all till the firemen come. On Thursday, October 2025 we rode on a pumper firetruck, and a grass rig fire truck. It was so fun and we got to look at the firetrucks and I also got to put on my dad's fire gear. Don't put any clothing on grease fire or water. It will make the fire worse. worse. do not play with fire it is very dangerous. If you make a campfire be

careful and make sure you put it out before you go to bed. If there is a fire, firemen have to get their gear and put out the fire. I went on a fire truck. I learned so much in the fire truck. The firemen picked us up. It was so much fun. we got to put on the jackets. and on the way back to school we got to honk the horn. and we learned about ambulances too. it was so cool I had so much fun I got to put on my dad’s gear! — Olivia Schramm If you're on fire stop, drop, and roll.
