Vikings fall to Crofton Warriors in first loss of the year

(By Coach Jon Baue) WAUSA — The Wausa-Osmond Vikings hosted Crofton on Friday, Oct. 10.

The Vikes started the game with a long pass from Carlson to Thorell and a few plays later turn the ball over on downs.

Crofton took advantage of the ball and scored shortly with a long cut back run. The PAT was good and Crofton led 8-0 first quarter.

The next Viking drive ended with six points of our own with a short run across the goal line by Carlson. The PAT was no good and Crofton held the lead eight to six.

Crofton would quickly answer on a few pass plays and a short run across the goal line. The PAT was good, making it Crofton 16, Vikings 6, still in the first quarter.

A fumble by the Vikings would give the ball back to Crofton on our next drive. Crofton would once again score and the lead was Crofton 22, Vikings 6. Crofton would score again before halftime and go into the half leading 30 to 6.

Crofton came out of halftime with a quick scoring drive to go up 36 to 12. The Vikings would muster up one more scoring drive to cut the lead to 36 to 12.

This would be the only points the Vikings would put up the rest of the game while Crofton would stack on 14 more points before the end of the ball game and come out on top 50 to 12.

I feel we did not come into this game with much effort or intensity.

We looked flat and showed much less effort than prior games.

Too many penalties and assignment breakdowns against a team like Crofton can be very costly and Crofton took advantage of that.

We will learn from this and move on. Next week's game is very important in the playoff picture so we need to focus on Niobrara/Verdigre now.
