HARTINGTON — On Saturday, Oct. 3, seven members of P.E.O. Chapter BE met in Hartington for the annual Reciprocity meeting. Reciprocity by its very definition is about sharing with others for mutual benefit. Information about fundraising, finding new members and keeping existing members engaged was shared among members of various chapters. The goals of the Nebraska State President, Jean Matheny, who was elected this June at the Nebraska State Convention, were all discussed in the meeting.
Chapters located in northeast Nebraska, but extending as far west as Valentine, are part of the Reciprocity IV group. This year’s meeting was hosted by chapter HZ Hartington and the meeting was held at the Hard Patch Brewing Company with Oktoberfest as the theme.
The business part of the meeting focused on discussions about our International Projects and sharing ideas on how the chapters can find and sponsor recipients to our loans, grants, and scholarship. P.E.O also has a long time partnership with Cottey College in Nevada Missouri and the P.E.O. Home in Beatrice.
These other two interests are wholly supported by P.E.O. Anyone wishing to know more about the loans, ELF with 2% interests, grants, scholarship, or attendance at Cottey College can direct questions to peochbe40@gmail. com. A local member will be glad to talk with you.
After the business meeting, the ladies enjoyed a real German meal: Schnitzel, spaetzle, red cabbage and apple coleslaw along with German Kielbasa and pretzels. A selection of locally brewed beer from Hard Patch Brewing Company was made available to those wanting to enjoy the full Oktoberfest atmosphere.
Next year’s meeting will be hosted by the Wayne chapter, ID on Oct. 3. — News Reporter
