PLAINVIEW — The combination of Plainview and Osmond once again shows its strength by securing a spot in the playoffs for the Junior Pirates and bringing home fourth-place medals. There are nine teams in the league and the Junior Pirates ended their season with a record of 4-3.
With 35 kids on the team, extra games were added throughout the season to help players gain knowledge and get some field time. Only six games were on the original league schedule, but coaches worked to add more in for their players, ending up with 20 games for the fourth-sixth graders.
Sixth and fifth grade teams took on the towns of Laurel, Creighton, Sum - merland, Santee, Bloomfield/Wausa, Stanton, and Elkhorn Valley, while the fourth grade played seven games taking on the teams from Summerland, Creighton, and Battle Creek.
“By having the extra players this year, we really saw the next level of competitiveness come out in a lot of these players,” the team coaches said. “They pushed each other to become better athletes. But not only that, they continued to build on a bond and developing friendships on and off the field."
There is still one more chance to see some of these Junior Pirates in action. Axton Stech, Knox Koehler, and Axyl Rice were the three sixth grade players selected to represent this team in the All Star Game this Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Plainview. Come out and cheer them on!
