Lady Tigers play at Randolph, home

(By Coach Bradley Wright) The Osmond Lady Tiger basketball team had a busy week, traveling to Randolph on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and hosting Wynot on Friday, Dec. 12.

Osmond vs. Randolph

RANDOLPH — On Tuesday, the Osmond Lady Tigers traveled to Randolph to take on the Lady Cardinals. The visiting Tigers held a slim lead after one quarter of play, up 10-9. A cold second quarter for Osmond and strong showing by the home team Cardinals gave them the lead going into the halftime break, 21-16.

Osmond came out strong in the third period and started to make runs to close the scoring margin but foul trouble in the period slowed that process late. Randolph still held onto the lead at 33-29 going into the final quarter of play.

Very early in the fourth quarter, senior Carrie Kumm collected her fifth foul of the game. With 7 min utes and 20 seconds left in the game, senior Kaleigh Miller also collected her fifth foul.

This left Osmond to play 4 vs. 5 for almost the entire fourth quarter. Despite the disadvantage, the Tigers continued to play hard and competed until the final buzzer sounded. Unfor tunately it wasn’t enough as the Tigers would lose by a final score of 49-39. Despite the final result of the score, Osmond had some very solid individual performances. Korrine Moes led the way for the Tigers, finishing with a double-double as she had 15 points, 12 rebounds and had team highs in assists and blocks with 3 and 4, respectively. Kaleigh Miller through her 3 quarters and 40 seconds of play finished just shy of a doubledouble, finishing with 9 points and a team high 16 rebounds and 3 steals.

Even though it was a frustrating result and a very unfortunate situation playing almost the entire fourth quarter with only four girls, the coaching staff is very proud of these girls who put up a fight until the end. Not only did they compete until the very end, but not once did they complain, give up, or ever have a negative attitude.

Osmond vs. Wynot

OSMOND — On Friday, the Tigers were back at home as they faced the #1 ranked team in the state in Class D2, the Wynot Blue Devils. The Tigers were up for the challenge of a great team and came out strong in the first quarter. With 3 minutes left in the first, the two teams were tied up yet at 7 points apiece. Wynot would go on a run to finish out the quarter and led 16-7 after the first buzzer.

The second quarter saw the Tigers hit a significant scoring slump as they could only net one basket and drop one free throw as they finished with only 3 points in the quarter. Wynot however, kept pace with their first quarter effort and put in another 17 points to take the 33-10 lead into halftime.

The second half saw a very equal game as Wynot would score 20 points to Osmond’s 14 points through the final two quarters. Wynot would win by a final score of 53-24. The loss

drops Osmond’s record to 0-4 as they still work towards their first victory of the early season.

Despite what the final score showed, Osmond competed very well and were able to accomplish a lot of good things throughout the game, including their execution and learning to let plays develop instead of rushing things. Korrine Moes had another solid performance, scoring a team-high 14 points, and came away with 4 steals. Carrie Kumm was able to secure 10 rebounds in the contest.
