Friends,
Ablessed Christmas to you and your family! The Creator of the Universe has a special Word to speak to you. It
is a Word of love. Sometimes during our daily lives we may wonder why God seems not to speak to us. If God is really there, why doesn’t he explain to me what I should do? Why is God silent? The truth is God does speak to us. He has been speaking to us since the foundations of the world.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). How does a God who is infinite show himself to we who are finite? God first placed his message of love into his very creation. Everything was made according to an idea existing in the Divine Mind, to show his wonderful presence through the splendor of created things. We can look at the beauty of creation and catch a glimpse of our Creator. Even on Christmas night, we know the heavens proclaimed his glory through the guidance of a star.
But this was not enough for God.
He sees our afflictions, the evils of the world, and the misery of our own
sins. He wanted to speak a word to strengthen us. Thus over many cen turies he spoke to us through mighty deeds and through the voices of proph - ets. All these have been recorded in the Scriptures, so that we today might
know his Word of love.
But even this was not enough for
God. These deeds and words point to a final definitive Word. Into a world darkened by sin and death, he promised to send a Savior. "In these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son." "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
"A child is born to us, a son is given us” (Hebrews 1:1, John 1:14, Isaiah 9:6). The tiny child in the manger. Emmanuel, God is with us. Jesus Christ.
In a sense, to speak the loudest, God lost his voice. The infant Jesus spoke no sermons. Yet, even from the manger he teaches us. God comes to you and I with such gentleness. God humbled himself to allow us to get near to him. If he invited the lowly shepherd, then certainly we ourselves, as insignificant as we might be, are invited to adore him. This child, Jesus Christ, is the one single Word of God’s love that he speaks to us. This one Word is all that is needed. Why does it seem that God speaks no answers?
Because he himself is the answer.
Before his face, questions die away.
Simply place yourself before him.
Finally, it was not enough for Jesus to lay upon straw, the food of beasts.
No, he has come to us, who so often live and act like beasts, to become our food. His Body and Blood, sacrificed
on the Cross and celebrated at Christ-
mas "Christ's Mass" and every Mass, he has given to restore our souls to
full humanity, as well as to partake in his divinity. We see a likeness of this baby in the manger scene. We meet the actual child, God himself, in the Blessed Sacrament on the altar.
Come let us adore him!
