A Question About Your Christmas Tree
I’m curious — when do you put your Christmas tree up, and when do you take it down?
Are you one of those who puts it up right after Thanksgiving? Or do you wait until the last minute and put it up the day before Christmas?
And as far as taking it down, do you take it down right after Christmas; do you wait and take it down after Epiphany; or do you leave it up until you “have time,” which could be months, or maybe leave it up all year?
My family, when I was growing up, usually followed the German tradition of putting up the tree on Christmas Eve. We also, for many years, had real candles on our tree - little white candles put in candle holders made specifi cally for the Christmas tree.
I don’t remember exactly when we took the tree down. That was probably something my mom did at some point.
I don't remember the specifics of every year, but I do remember one year when we were in Germany and my little sister was only a few years old. My two older sisters and I were given the task of taking a walk with my little sister so she wouldn’t see the tree being put up or the presents put underneath it. And on the way home, we saw Santa and his sleigh flying across the sky!
Now, I know I was old enough to know better, but even I swore that’s what I saw. What else could it have been? I don’t know, but maybe that’s the magic of Christmas.
Please write in and tell me your Christmas memories — about your favorite present, or about your Christmas tree traditions. I think it will be fun for everyone to share their Christmas magic.
