OSMOND - The candidate filing period for 2026 in Nebraska began on Monday, Jan. 5, and the first filing deadline for political office will occur in just over a month.
The deadline for incumbent filings is Feb. 17 while the final date for non-incumbents is March 2. If an office holder plans to file for a different office, the deadline for them is still Feb. 17.
The 2026 State Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 12. The first day to accept early voting ballot requests for the primary election will be Jan. 12, and the last day for a new political party to submit petitions with the Secretary of State to qualify for the upcoming primary election is Jan. 15.
Locally, the terms of City Council members Dan Timmerman and Neil Wattier expire this year. District 42R School Board members whose terms expire are Tyler Gansebom, Justin Koehler and Tiffany Rice.
