The Pirates traveled to Boone Central on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for a dual with Boone Central and Wayne.
This was the first dual we have had, so it was a new experience for the girls. We wrestled really well as a team and the girls really responded to a great atmosphere.
Against Wayne, it was a really tight dual until the end. Against Boone Central, the matches we had we wrestled well and were able to get the win. I was really proud of the girls for embracing the atmosphere and the way they supported each other in the dual setting. Duals are a great setting for our sport and it was a really fun night.

The team traveled to Winside for an invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10.
What a great day of wrestling at Winside. The girls came out ready to wrestle and we were able to medal seven girls. We finished third in a tight team race all the way through, with only 8.5 points separating first and third.
I always talk to the girls about find ing a positive and an improvement during each event. Our team positive was the way the girls came out early in the tournament using things we worked on in practice.
Placing seven at that tournament shows how well they competed all day. We were leading as a team going into the finals and couldn't quite hold on as the round went on.
What we are going to talk to the girls about is how as the competition increases when we get into the finals, little things make a big difference between winning and losing. We are going to continue learning from every event we compete in and look to improve next time out on the mat.
