Pirate bowling team finishes season

Pirate bowling team finishes season
Meagan Wagner is shown in action at the duel in Osmond

(By Coach Leonard Risinger) OSMOND — The last duel of the season was against Norfolk Catholic Knights on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Main Street Alley. The Lady Pirates were short two bowlers so this was going to be an uphill battle to try to make the baker’s games matter.

Lady Pirates

The first game the Lady Knights won 574-398 and took 7 of the eight points. The second game was better for the Lady Pirates, but the game finished 446-545 in favor of Lady Knights. The Lady Pirates won 2 points. After two games, the Lady Knights won the match with a score of 13-3. We still had to bowl one baker’s game to award those 5 points. Lady Knights won it, too, 103-79.

High score was thrown by Nyome Harding with a 138 in game one and she won her point as well. Second game high scores were thrown by Nyome Harding with a 143 and Lucea Miller with a 120. Both of them won their point as well in the second game. The Lady Pirates are 3-14 on the season.

Pirates

The Pirates threw their best game of the season with a 703, but it was not enough to beat the 826 by the Knights. The Pirates did get 2 of the points.

The second game was a slight decline for the Pirates with a score of 687, losing to the Knights’ 806. The Pirates only won one point in the second game.

After two regular games, the Knights won 13-3, but there was still the need for a baker’s game. The Pirates did manage to win the baker’s game 148-143. Final score of 13-8 in favor of the Knights.

High score was thrown by Kooper Gubbels with a 202 and Ethan Kemnitz with a 155 in game one. Both of them were able to win their point. High games in two were Kooper Gubbels with a 198 and Ethan Kemnitz with a 128. Only Kooper was able to win his point in the second game. The Pirates are at 4-14 on the season.

Districts

The Pirates traveled down to Mockingbird Lanes in Omaha on Jan. 30 to take part in the B-2 Districts for the chance to go to state in two ways. This is districts so similar to a tournament but there are no head-to-head matches during the regular games.

Each team uses their three total game to get put in a bracket and work their way through the bracket to see who will go to team state. The other way to get to state is to go as an individual by using their score during the regular games to see if they make the top 5 individuals, but the top 10 will all get medals.

The Pirates started off slow with a few bowlers on the outside looking in. The second game was still the same with two Pirates looking from the outside.

During the last game, Ethan Kemnitz took off with a final score of 192 and pulled into the ninth place in the districts. His first two games were a 156 and 136, respectively. Other Pirates with good scores were Donovan Heiman with a 150 in the first game, Kooper Gubbels with a 141 in the second game, and Jaren Hergert with a 141 in the third game.

The total score for the Pirates was 2,003 which put them in fifth out of five teams. Skutt Catholic led with a 2,606, second was Elkhorn with a 2,426, third was Waverly with a 2,232, and fourth was Superior with a 2,185.

Superior and Pirates faced off in the first round of the bracket. The Pirates led all three baker’s games at one point or another, but the Wildcats came back and won each one.

Final scores of the three baker’s games were 127-105, 146-138, and 141-134. Winner of the B-2 district was Waverly Vikings.

This is the end for the Pirates season with neither team or individual making it to state. The baker’s series will count to the record so the Pirates finish the season 4-15.
