OSMOND — The Osmond High School speech team officially began its season on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Hartington-Newcastle Speech Meet. There were 21 teams in attendance for the day. Speech competitors have been working during the past month to se- lect, prepare, and write their speeches.
This speech meet had two divisions: Varsity and junior varsity. In the varsity division, two groups of students have a chance to compete in the final round.
Placing at this speech meet in the varsity division were: Ava Reikof - ski, first in champs extemporaneous speaking; Donovan Heiman, second in honors entertainment speaking; Justin Rohloff, sixth in honors humorous prose; Jack Berg and Piper Hoffman, fourth in honors duet; Meagan Wagner and Donovan Heiman, first in honors duet, and the team of Erin Aschoff, Kaleigh Miller, Meagan Wagner, and Donovan Heiman, first in honors OID.
Placing in the JV division: Adalyn Koehler, fifth in POI; Clara Steinkraus and Evynn Kumm, fourth in duet, and the team of Clara Steinkraus, Evynn Kumm, Kenley Friedrich, Ava Kumm, and Katarina Miller, placed first.
Overall, the varsity team tied for 10th and the JV team tied for sixth.
The Speech Team this year has 20 members including returning mem - bers: Erin Aschoff, Jade Halsey, Ava Reikofski, Meagan Wagner, Jack Berg, Justin Rohloff, Kaleigh Miller, Piper Hoffman, Addison Miller, Donovan Heiman, Easton Steinkraus, and Deanna Kumm. New members this year are Clara Steinkraus, Evynn Kumm, Kenley Friedrich, Ava Kumm, Katarina Miller, Adalyn Koehler, Michael Fritz, and Nevaeh Newton. Coaches this year are Patricia Marks and Robin Wagner.
