PIERCE - David Hood is the new Pierce County Road Superintendent. The County Board of Commissioners appointed Hood and he began in the position Jan. 5. He is the first County Road Superintendent that is solely an employee of Pierce County. The board had been considering the option of creating a designated road superintendent position for the county for a number of years. And over the past year, efforts had been made to find an individual to fill the position. A number of applicants were inter - viewed. Hood was offered the job in October and accepted with a starting salary of $62,250. The board is still in the process of developing a contract, and a complete job description for the position.
Hood lives in Plainview. He said he began working in Plainview at John Deere in 1990 and in 2004 began work - ing on a farm for Dave Hamilton. Hood then worked for Hoffman Construction from April 2019 until September 2025.
The duties of the road superintendent will include oversight and supervision of some 15 County Road Department employees, planning, organizing, and directing the Road Department.
Hood said he does need to take classes to become certified as a road super -
intendent and to be a bridge inspector for the county.
