KEARNEY — The Plainview sixth through eighth grade wrestling team participated in the Huskerland Dual Team Championship on Friday, March 13, in Kearney at the Buffalo County Event Center.
The Plainview team took first place out of 16 teams, with a dual record of 5-0.
Plainview defeated the Star City Slammers 45-25, Pierce 46-26, and McCook 57-9 to advance to the club pool gold bracket.
In the gold bracket, they defeated Randolph 36-32 to advance to the championship round against Burwell. They defeated Burwell 39-25 to take the championship.
Undefeated wrestlers on the team included Axyl Rice of Osmond and Tate Frahm, Cinch Forbes and Jackson Wortman of Plainview.
Teams had to have members in all weight brackets, so the Plainview team filled in some weight brackets with youth from several other schools.
Team members and their weights were: Ryker Schmidt of Crofton- Bloomfield, 75 lbs.; Axyl Rice, 80 lbs.; Colesyn Forbes, 85 lbs.; Zane Kromarek, 90 lbs.; Gabe Kester of Summerland, 95 lbs.; Blake Heithold of Wayne, 100 lbs.; Tyson Konicek of Norfolk Catholic, 110 lbs.; Colt Frahm, 120 lbs.; Harrison Poppe of Crofton-Bloomfield, 130 lbs.; Parker Spaulding, 140 lbs.; Tate Frahm, 160 lbs.; Cinch Forbes, 180 lbs., and Jackson Wortman, HWT.
