Administrator’s Corner

ACT and JMC

This month we sacrificed an hour of sleep and moved our clocks an hour ahead to daylight savings time. This means the final quarter of the school year is upon us and warmer days are coming. It also means, along with other tests, that the ACT test (once known as the American College Test) is waiting for the junior class.

It has always been known that the educational profession uses more acronyms than we can count. This article is to let you know of two acronyms currently being frequently used in the Osmond school.

The ACT testing date for the junior class is Tuesday, March 24. This test is free of charge and required as part of their statewide assessment for the Nebraska Department of Education.

Just like last year, the ACT test will be given via computer instead of the pencil and paper version that has been given in the past. Even though this test is important, I realize that this is probably not something the juniors are looking forward to. They can at least look forward to pizza being provided to them at the conclusion of the testing window.

Please clear your child’s calendar of appointments so they can be in school to take the ACT test on the scheduled day. Also, not to be left out, the sophomores will take the Pre-ACT on April 15. Good luck to all.

I would like to introduce you to another acronym you will need to know next year, JMC. This acronym is named after the person who started the company, which is now known as the John McElmury Company.

JMC will become the new Student Information System (SIS) for the Osmond school beginning with the 2026-27 school year and will be replacing our current SIS, Power School. Power School has served the Osmond School for several years and has grown dramatically as a business.

Unfortunately, this seems to have caused them to become too large for a small school as they are not as user friendly as they once were. By changing to JMC, we plan to bring a SIS that will be more user friendly for staff, parents, and students while improving communication for all users.

This system will also make it easier for parents to track their child’s grade throughout the school year. Change is not always popular, but please give JMC your full attention next school year as we believe that this change will be a positive one. Thank you.
