Wattier begins track season, breaks record

MANKATO, MN — Keaton Wattier, a senior at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN, started his indoor track season by breaking the all-time pentathlon testing record by 49 points. He scored 392 points, beating out the previous record of 343 held by Dylan Gross. Keaton beat the all-time standing broad jump record for sprinters/ hurdlers by jumping 11 ft., 6.5 in. He also broke the all-time forward and backward shot put throw by throwing 54 ft., 9.1 in. forward and 56 ft., 3.25 in. backwards. He had a 30 F.A.T. of 3.91 seconds and a standing triple jump of 31 ft., 3.5 in. At the Maverick Open Indoor meet on Feb. 20, he got first place in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 7.87, setting a meet record with that time, and also earning himself a NSIC Athlete of the Week award and placing him the fifth fastest time in NCAA Di - vision II. On Feb. 28, he got first place

and was a NSIC Conference Champion with a time of 7.89.

Keaton qualified for NCAA D2 Nationals in Virginia Beach March 13 and 14, and ended up third in his heat with a time of 8.01, not qualifying for finals, ending his indoor track career with a 11th place national ranking.

Keaton holds the indoor track 60-meter hurdle record at Wayne State College in Wayne with a time of 8.08 in 2024.

Keaton is the son of Eric and Lynn Wattier of Osmond, and grandson of Elizabeth Wattier of Osmond.
