Five Osmond FFA members receive state degrees
(By FFA Advisor Jessica Evans) Nine hundred forty-eight students were awarded the Nebraska State FFA Degree at the 97th annual Nebraska FFA State Convention held March 25-27. The State FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed by the Nebraska FFA Association.
In order to earn the Nebraska State FFA Degree, a candidate must have been an active FFA member for at least the immediate past 24 months. Candidates must hold the Greenhand and Chapter FFA Degrees.
Applicants must have completed at least two full years/four semesters (360 hours) of agriculture classes, or all of the agriculture classes offered at the school last attended.
The candidate must have a record of at least 25 hours of community service in at least two different activities. Students must qualify for the degree with earnings, productively invested and hours.
A student must have productively invested at least $1,000 and must show SAE earnings of at least $3,000 or a student must have productively invested at least $3,000 and must show SAE earnings of at least $1,000 or a student must have productively invested at least $1,200 and must show SAE earnings of at least $1,200 and must show that [(3.56 factor x quantity of unpaid hours) + value of productively invested assets] = at least 5,000 and must show that [(3.56 factor x quantity of unpaid hours) + SAE earnings] = at least 5,000.
Candidates must have performed at least 10 procedures of parliamentary law. Candidates must have presented at least a six-minute speech on a topic relating to agriculture or FFA.
Candidates must have participated in planning and completing the chapter Program of Activities. Candidates must have earned at least 500 points for FFA activities, and candidates must have earned at least 150 points for FFA activities above the chapter level.
Members of the Osmond FFA Chapter meeting these requirements this year included juniors Alexa Aschoff, Deanna Kumm, Ava Severson, Ashlyn Spangler, and Addi von Rentzell.
These five students walked across the stage during the first general ses sion to receive their State FFA Degree charm and certificate.
The FFA State Degree charm and certificate are sponsored by Farm Credit Services of America.
Additionally, students who earn the state degree receive one year of complimentary membership in the Nebraska FFA Alumni.
