KEARNEY - The University of Nebraska at Kearney's Fine Arts Building was alive with the sound of excellence on Saturday, March 21, as the Nebraska Class D All-State Honor Band took the stage.
For the Osmond music program, the event was a historic milestone, featuring a record-breaking 10 student representatives — the largest group in school history.
The students earned their spots through a rigorous selection process, placing them among the top tier of musicians from Class D schools across the state.
The Osmond contingent was split
between two premier groups. Five students were selected for the pres - tigious wind ensemble, including: Donovan Heiman, Addison Miller, Clara Steinkraus, Jack Berg and Meagan Wagner.
An additional five students per - formed with the symphonic band: Dawson Gansebom, Justin Rohloff, Kaleigh Miller, Katarina Miller and Delilah Koehler. Nickolas Kumm was also chosen for symphonic band, but was unable to attend due to illness.
The highlight of the afternoon ar- rived during the awards presentation.
Four Osmond musicians — Donovan
Heiman, Addison Miller, Jack Berg, and Meagan Wagner - were awarded medals for achieving First Chair placement on their respective instruments, distinguishing them as the top-ranked players in their sections for the entire state.
The trip to Kearney began on Friday evening, allowing the students time to bond before the high-pressure rehearsals.
The group visited the Big Apple Fun Center, where they spent the evening enjoying arcade games and a team dinner.
On Saturday, the atmosphere at UNK matched the unseasonably
p leasant weather.
The music performed by the en-
sembles was described as "warm and inviting," reflecting the hard work and dedication the students put into their rehearsals throughout the day.
The record-breaking attendance and the haul of first-chair medals underscore the growing strength of
the Osmond music department.
"It was a fun and successful event from start to finish," music director Christalin Ginn noted. "Congratula tions to our Tiger musicians for representing our school and community with such distinction."
