Osmond pharmacist Scott Taylor’s daughter publishes first book

Osmond pharmacist Scott Taylor’s daughter publishes first book

(Pierce County Leader) Emily (Taylor) Hatesohl, Pierce High School Class of 2011, had always wanted to be a writer. This year [2025], that dream came true as she self-published her first children's book, “Grandpa Works with One Hammer.”

Hatesohl wrote the rhyming book for her two sons, Ben, 4, and Henry, 2. Her husband, Tom, encouraged her to publish it to share with other kids who love tools, singing, books, and being helpers.

The book is based on the children’s tune “Johnny Works with One Hammer.” Each page features Grandpa working with a new tool and a new grandkid “helper.”

Hatesohl said she based the book on her dad. “My boys love to check out Grandpa Scott’s workshop and help him with whatever project he’s working on. I wanted the illustrations to portray the chaos, fun, and love that comes with working with tools and kids to build something together.”

The illustrations in the book were done by a young artist, Elizabeth Lee, from Hatesohl’s alma mater, Concordia University in Seward.

“Elizabeth had a great vision for the characters in the book, and she really made the whole concept come alive,” said Hatesohl.

“Grandpa Works with One Hammer” is available on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble, and many local bookstores in the Midwest.

Emily Hatesohl is the daughter of Scott and Debbie Taylor of Pierce. She and her family live in Salina, KS.

[Editor’s note: The book is now available at the Osmond Pharmacy, owned by Scott and Debbie Taylor.]
