Local athletes have strong showing at Battle Creek track invitational

(By Coach Jessica Evans) Athletes from both the boys’ and girls’ track teams delivered a solid showing Wednesday, April 8, at the Battle Creek invitational, highlighted by several personal best performances and a pair of top-seven finishes in competitive fields.

On the boys’ side, Mason True led the way on the track, clocking 24.91 seconds in the 200-meter dash and placing seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.20. Distance runner Trenton Wiseley added a strong effort in the 1,600 meters, finishing in 5:43.17.

leb Gardner combined for a time of 4:07.18, earning a seventh-place finish.

In field events, Gardner recorded a discus throw of 101 ft., 3 in. Steinkraus reached a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 17 ft., 11 in. Wiseley and Steinkraus also contributed in the triple jump, posting marks of 35 ft., 9 in. (personal best) and 35 ft., 5 in., respectively.

The girls’ team showcased depth across multiple events. In the 100-meter dash, Kenley Friedrich led the group with a time of 14.04, followed by Evynn Kumm, who set a personal best at 14.59. Additional efforts came from Korrine Moes (15.21), Kaleigh Miller (15.38), Adyson Poellot (15.50), and Addison Miller (15.86).

Friedrich also paced the team in the 200 meters with a 29.51 finish, while Kumm (30.04) and Katarina Miller (33.46) followed. Sunny Geneski (34.22), Poellot (34.63), and Addison Miller (35.41) rounded out the event.

In the 400 meters, Geneski led with a time of 1:16.93, while Clara Steinkraus (1:19.15) and Ava Kumm (1:20.18) each achieved personal bests. Other contributors included Adalyn Koehler (1:18.42), Carriana Kumm (1:20.86), and Nevaeh Newton (1:24.21).

Newton also competed in the 800 meters (3:14.88), while Deanna Kumm ran both distance events, finishing the 1,600 in 7:49.28 and the 3,200 in 16:40.44.

Ava Kumm posted a time of 1:01.65 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Relay teams showed strong teamwork throughout the meet. The 4x100 relay squad of Evynn Kumm, Clara Steinkraus, Korrine Moes, and Friedrich finished in 57.89. In the 4x400 relay, Geneski, Siris Stanton, Carriana Kumm, and Evynn Kumm recorded a time of 5:00.44, while the 4x800 team of Stanton, Newton, Deanna Kumm, and Carriana Kumm crossed in 13:34.73.

Field events saw continued success, with Moes leading the Tigers shot putters at 31 ft., 7 in., followed by Katarina Miller (29 ft., 6 in.) and Kaleigh Miller (26 ft., 8 in.). In discus, Katarina Miller achieved a personal best throw of 85 ft., 3 in., while Moes added a mark of 72 ft., 10 in.

Friedrich placed seventh in the high jump, clearing 4 ft., 6 in., while Ava Kumm cleared 4 ft., 2 in. In the long jump, Clara Steinkraus posted a mark of 11 ft., 11 in., and Geneski jumped 10 ft., 10.5 in. Steinkraus also competed in the triple jump, recording 28 ft., 5 in.

With multiple personal records and strong finishes, the team continues to build momentum as the season progresses.
