PIERCE — Pierce County Clerk and Election Commissioner Shannon Wragge has released the official Pierce County results for the 2026 Primary Election, which was held on Tuesday, May 12.
There were no local races to be voted on in the primaries. The only office with more candidates than open seats is that of city council, which will be voted on in the General Election in November.
For Pierce County Commissioner of District 2, Michael Mayfield received 238 votes; Dave Lienemann, 155; Brad Albers, 149, and Loren Gerdes, 56. For Pierce County Commissioner of District 3, Carl Martinson received 420 votes and Brandon Wagner received 252.
In a major upset, Daniel G. Hallock won the bid for Pierce County Sheriff with 1,291 votes, defeating longtime Sheriff Rick J. Eberhardt, who received 609 votes.
Area Races
In the Pierce City Mayor race, incumbent Tom Meyer won with 362 votes; Tom Gubbels had 128, and Roy Mittelstaedt, 46.
For Plainview City Mayor, incumbent Bob Smith received 290 votes; Brian Schlote, 87, and Larry Lockman, 51.
The Pierce Public School Bond passed with 668 votes for and 626 against.
Both Plainview bond issues failed. For Public Bond Proposition 1, there were 489 votes against and 192 for, and for Public Bond Proposition 2, there were 500 votes against and 176 for.
Local Trends Follow State
In general, Pierce County voters followed the statewide trend in voting for state offices.
On the Republican ticket, incumbent Pete Rickets won the bid for U.S. Senate and will face Democrat Cindy Burbank.
Incumbent Jim Pillen won the bid for Governor in the Republican race and will face Democrat Lynne Walz and Legal Marijuana Now candidate Rick Beard in November.
For Secretary of State, Scott Petersen won the Republican nod over incumbent Bob Evnen. Petersen will face Democratic choice Sarah Slattery.
For State Treasurer, Joey Spellerberg was unchallenged in the Republican race and Democrat Daniel Ebers was also unchallenged. They will face off in the General Election.
The Attorney General race will be between Republican Mike Hilgers and Jocelyn Brasher, who both went unchallenged in the Primary Election.
Mike Foley was unchallenged for State Auditor and will move forward to the General Election.
For Congress District 3, incumbent Adrian Smith won the Republican nod and will face Democrat Becky Kelly Stille and Legal Marijuana Now candidate David J. Else.
Barry DeKay ran unchallenged for Legislature District 40 and will move forward.
Sherry Jones defeated Grady Erickson for State Board of Education District 6.
