(Pierce County Leader) PIERCE — Pierce County has been awarded a $23,570 grant from the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) to conduct a scrap tire collection project this summer. County officials have set the collection date for Tuesday, June 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the District 1 County Shop at Plainview.
The collection is for Pierce County Residents only. No tires will be taken ahead of time and no commercial, or business tires will be accepted.
The grant will cover the collection of 150 tons of scrap tires.
DWEE has awarded grants in 2026 for 126 waste and litter reduction projects across the state. The funds are awarded through DWEE’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grants Program and its Litter Reduction and Recycling Program. The grants are funded by fees on solid waste disposed of in landfills, annual retail business sales fees, and fees assessed on the sales of new tires.
