Remembering 9/11

A few weeks ago, Brian Lorenz of Osmond saw a post on social media encouraging farmers and others in Nebraska to remember the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks by displaying farm equipment and flags along the highways in the state. Apparently this was something that first happened in southeast Nebraska five years ago. This year, organizers had a plan to cover Highway 77 from Beatrice to Lincoln, but with the post spreading across Facebook, others outside that area also joined in. Lorenz set out two of the tractors on his parents’ farm south of Osmond on Highway 121 with flags and a banner that read “We will never forget — Forever Remembered.” After a picture of those tractors was shared on the Osmond News and Views Facebook page, Julie Newman of Plainview commented with a picture of tractors with flags on Highway 20 east of Plainview. It is hoped that this tradition continues, and grows, to honor the first responders and people who died during the attacks on September 11, 2001.
