PIERCE – The Pierce County Republican Committee met Tuesday, Dec. 5, with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer led by county chairman Bradly Lewon.

PIERCE — The Pierce County Republican Committee met Tuesday, Dec. 5, with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer led by county chairman Bradly Lewon.

Chairman Lewon advised of two dates to be mindful of: 1. Saturday, Dec. 9, in Norfolk at the Black Cow Fat Pig from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for “Candidate Training” and information regarding the “Advantage” smart phone app to be used for canvassing. Members were asked to RSVP to Brad if interested in attending 2. Jan. 13-14, 2024, in Broken Bow, “Roberts Rules of Order” training. Cost is $200 per person. If interested RSVP to Brad. Bob Christiansen suggested the county GOP defray all or some of the cost to attend.

The next agenda item was voting to approve and ratify the newlyformed Pierce County Constitution. Chairman Lewon advised that since there were plenty of opportunities for members to suggest amendments to the document, an immediate vote to approve the constitution would be taken.

The chairman advised that in a fully-formed county GOP, the County Central Committee and voting delegates would be the only eligible voters. Since the county does not currently have a formed central committee, representing each voting precinct, the vote would be left to the registered county Republican members present at this meeting.

A vote was taken. The constitution was approved with nine members voting YES and no members voting NO. The constitution was ratified on the date of Dec. 5, 2023, signed by Chairman Bradley Lewon and Secretary Lisa Schmit. A copy of the constitution will besent to the Nebraska State GOP for their review and filing.

The meeting continued with Steve Jessen presenting the EPIC Option, a ballot initiative to eliminate Nebraska property tax and replacing property tax with consumption tax. Steve opened his presentation by stating that 77% of the GOP state central committee voted to put EPIC Option on the state GOP platform. For those present at this meeting, a lively debate was had. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. The next monthly meeting will be held on the FIRST Tuesday: Jan. 2, 2024, at 7 p.m. at Lied Library in Pierce.
