PIERCE — The 2024 Pierce County Republican Party convention was held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at the Lied Pierce Public Library. A prayer was led by member Nathan Codr, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance recited by all.
Chairman Bradley Lewon proceeded with the convention by introducing guest speaker Cammie Metheny, chairwoman of Cedar County Nebraska Republican party. Metheny began by sharing her extensive involvement within the Nebraska State GOP.
Metheny urged the citizens of Nebraska to be involved and engaged in what is always developing with lawmaking in Nebraska. Metheny mentioned LB574 (sports and spaces), border protection, Nebraska Board of Education Rule 10 amendment and property tax shifting, to name a few.
Metheny urged all those present to write letters to their legislative representative, go to hearings, call their state unicameral senator, and testify on bills in Lincoln, if possible.
She stated that 2023 legislative session was monumental in that the citizenry of Nebraska, the state’s Second House, was more involved in testifying and commenting on bills and hearings at the unicameral than in any other year in legislative history; showing legislators that the voting electorate and citizens of Nebraska are very engaged and aware of current legislative bills.
Metheny continued by encouraging voters to cast votes in an educated manner. Study the issues and candidates and avoid voting blindly, she said. Metheny continued by sharing that there a number of incumbents’ seats who are being challenged by new candidates.
The 2024 Pierce County GOP Convention continued with the voting in of the voting delegates and alternates for the Nebraska State Republican Convention. Voted in are Bradley Lewon and Amy Codr as delegates and alternate delegates Lee Homan and Robert Christensen. Also voted in were county executive chairman, Bradley Lewon; executive vice chairman, Amy Codr; county secretary, Lisa Linville, and treasurer, Robert Christensen.
