Swinging for the Fences
The ballfields were several miles from our house, located at the farthest possible southwest portion of the lake. We lived at the farthest northeast portion. As the crow flies, that distance could easily be cut in half, but we didn't have wings so that was a moot point. We rowed the boat a few times to practice, but even that was quite a chore for seven- and eight-year-olds. The temptation to go fishing while enroute was also difficult to resist so we pedaled ourselves most of the time.

Indian Cave ends trail rides, makes way for shooting range
Wrangler-guided horseback trail rides at Indian Cave State Park in southeast Nebraska will be discontinued beginning with the 2024 season, while alternative recreational opportunities are developed.

DHHS spreading awareness for tickborne disease
LINCOLN – The Department of Health and Human Services recognizes May as Lyme Disease Awareness Month. As the spring and summer months are the primary tick season in Nebraska, DHHS urges all residents to be mindful of ticks and to share information with their community on how to stay safe. Common tickborne diseases include Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Alpha-Gal Syndrome, and Tularemia.

Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 11% short, 74% adequate, and 12% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 4% very short, 17% short, 70% adequate, and 9% surplus.
