Wind farm lawsuit filed against county
North Fork Wind LLC and a dozen landowners filed a federal lawsuit against Knox County last Friday, challenging the regulation updates – including increasing setbacks from 2,000 feet to 1.25-miles – made last month and alledgeing them with the “unequivocal goal” of hindering the wind farm’s construction.

Creighton blood drive collects 24 units
The recent Creighton Community Blood Drive, held on Tuesday, August 20th, was nothing short of a triumph for our local community! A remarkable 22 donors stepped up to contribute, resulting in 24 units of life-saving blood collected. The donations made at this event have the potential to save up to 72 lives– an incredible impact on our community’s well-being.

Knox Co. Sheriff’s Report
eport On August 10, 2024, in the early morning hours the Knox County Sheriff department received a call from Starline Lacroix of Yankton, South Dakota, of a red, 2008 Dodge pickup being stolen East of Bloomfield., Starlene reported that her 18 year old son was driving it and told her that when they got out of the vehicle a was walking on a gravel road east of Bloomfield someone had stolen the vehicle. The vehicle was found on August 21, 2024, East of Bloomfield in Duane Schumacher’s field damaged and undriveable. The driver was re-interviewed and stated that he was the one driving the vehicle in the field and crashed the pickup truck. The Sheriff Office will be sending the report to Knox County Attorney, asking for charges of false reporting and reckless driving on the 18-year-old.

Funds available to establish buffer strip
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has funding available through the Nebraska Buffer Strip Program to assist landowners in establishing buffer strips. A buffer strip provides an area between a stream and crop ground to maximize the filtration of water from rain events, allowing suspended sediment and chemicals to drop out before reaching surface water bodies.
