RANDOLPH – Funeral services for Lowell F. Wiese, 69, of Randolph, is pending at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph. Lowell passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph is in charge of the arrangements.

2024 Nebraska acreage reported
LINCOLN – Nebraska producers planted 10.1 million acres of corn for all purposes, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is up 2% from last year. Of the total acres, 96% were planted with biotechnology varieties, up 2 percentage points from 2023. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 9.70 million acres, up 2% from a year ago.

Commissioners approve bighorn sheep season; other changes
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved a 2025 bighorn sheep hunting season at its Aug. 16 meeting at Fort Robinson State Park near Crawford.
