Wattier places in Conference Championships
On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Wayne State College track and field athletes attended the 2024 Northern Sun Conference Championships at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, MN. In prelims, sophomore Keaton Wattier advanced to Saturday's final of the 60-meter hurdles with the No. 6 qualifying time of 8.17 seconds to eclipse his previous record of 8.19 seconds set last month at the Mark Schuck Open in Mankato.

LINCOLN – All layers in Nebraska during January 2024 totaled 8.28 million, up from 6.25 million the previous year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

County-level commodity estimates given
LINCOLN – County-level estimates for 2023 row crops are now available, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The estimates, based primarily on surveys conducted with farmers and ranchers last fall, can be accessed using the QuickStats online database, found here: http://www.nass.usda.gov/Quick_Stats/ County-level row crop estimates are not published if any of the following conditions exist: Estimated harvested acres are less than 100. Insufficient number of producer reports were received to establish statisti cally defensible estimates.

Jami Timmerman and her three-month-old dog, River, enjoy walking outside in the unseasonably warm weather on Feb. 26 in Wausa. Several communities across the region saw high temperatures in the 70s, including Wausa. High temperatures are normally in the low 40s this time of year. Snowy and windy weather then blew through the area as winter returned on Feb. 27 with freezing cold temperatures. Early spring conditions are predicted to return for the next week with warmer temperatures.

Suspects arrested after Bloomfield double homicide
BLOOMFIELD – The Nebraska State Patrol arrested two individuals following a shooting the morning of Feb. 20 in Bloomfield that claimed the lives of two people, who also have been identified.
