Betty passed away on April 28, 2026, at her home in Atkinson after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born Aug. 16, 1955, in Atkinson to Nelson Gibson and Marjorie Bader. She was united in marriage to Bruce Engler on April 26, 1980. To this union three children were born, Bridgett Lynn, Josh and Travis. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was dedicated in caring for others, as witnessed by her love for her family, many years as an in-home daycare provider, and her work at a local nursing home. Her kindness and steady presence left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bruce Engler; her children, Josh (Kellie) Engler of Atkinson and Travis (Nickole) Engler of Lincoln; grandchildren Christian Engler of Minnesota, and Kadence and Kinsley Engler of Lincoln; sister Mary (Bill) Opp; brothers-in-law Joe (Sue), Chris (Patty), Mark (Linda) and Kevin (Connie), and sisters-in-law Barb (Randy) Frievogel and Susie (Dan) Dennis.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Bridgett; her parents; sister, Patty Straight; father- and mother-in-law, Robert and IlaMae Engler, and sister-in-law Carole Reber.
