Emmelyn 'Emmy' M. Gutz

PLAINVIEW – Funeral service for Emmelyn 'Emmy' M. Gutz, 83 of Plainview, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. Officiating the service will be Reverend Jacob Tuma. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, in Norfolk. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, also at Zion Lutheran Church, in Plainview. Casket bearers will be Brittani Gutz, Connor Gutz, Cali Gutz, Damian Smith, Tristan Smith, Hunter Meyer, and Alexa Brandt. Honorary casket bearer will be Jason Gutz.

Emmy passed away at her residence in Plainview with family by her side on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. Stonacek Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Emmelyn Gutz was born on Jan. 22, 1943, in Plainview to George and Hertha (Buchholz) Wacker. She was baptized on Feb. 14, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview, attended Zion Lutheran School for eight years, and was confirmed April 14, 1957, also at Zion in Plainview, before graduating from Plainview High School in 1961. Emmy also attended Concordia Teachers College at Seward and graduated. Emmy taught intermediate grades at Bay City, MI, for three years. She taught K-2nd grades, one year at Zion, and then kindergarten at Zion Lutheran in Pierce for one year. Emmy married Conrad Gutz on July 14, 1968, and four children were born to them; Jeff, Marvin, Cindy, and Crystal. Emmy was a stay-at-home mom until Crystal was in kindergarten. Then she taught in the resource room at Zion for 17 years. Conrad and Emmy retired in Plainview in 2011. Emmy's hobbies included quilting, crocheting, gardening, sewing, teaching Sunday School, playing the organ, directing choir and bell choir, as well as being an active member of the Priscilla Society of Zion.

Emmy is survived by her husband Conrad Gutz of Plainview; children Jeff (Ann) Gutz, Marvin (Melanie) Gutz and Cindy (Abe) Meyer, all of Osmond, and Crystal (Justin) Smith of Meadow Grove; sister Darlene Stelling of Plainview; brother Dennis (Imogene) Wacker of Central City; grandchildren Brittani, Damian, Alexa, Connor, Tristan, Cali and Hunter; brothers- and sisters-in-law Byron (Carleen) Gutz, Lois Koehler, Jim Gutz and Phil (Deb) Gutz, all of Osmond, Grace (Marion) von Rentzell of Grand Island, and Glenna Gutz and Vivian Lackas, both of Norfolk,.

Emmy was preceded in death by her daughter Lynette; grandson Jason; parents George and Hertha Wacker; parents-in-law Martin and Clara Gutz, and brothers-in-law David Gutz, Ronald Koehler, Steve Lackas and Kenneth Stelling.
