Dolores Ann (Abler) Theisen

Dolores passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Heritage at Fountain Point Assisted Living in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements.
Dolores Ann (Abler) Theisen was born on July 25, 1926, to Walter and Stella (Wright) Abler in Piece. She attended primary school at St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Pierce High School in 1943. After high school, she earned a certificate in phlebotomy from the Northwest Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. She worked at a hospital in Jamestown, SD, and later in Omaha, waiting for her fiancé, Jack Theisen, to return from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dolores and Jack were married on Aug. 20, 1946. The couple was blessed with eight children – Pamalla, Michael, Paul, Patrick, Mary, Teresa, James and William. She and Jack lived on a farm outside of Osmond where they raised their family. Their home was a place that family (sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and friends) gathered to enjoy wonderful food and fellowship. Dolores was a talented baker and always enjoyed trying new recipes for the family's enjoyment. She was a devout Catholic with a special dedication to the Virgin Mary and the Rosary. She was a member of St. Mary of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Osmond, where she was active in the Ladies' Guild and taught CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) classes for high school students. She also served on the Osmond General Hospital Auxiliary, dedicating her time to supporting the hospital and its community. In her later years, Dolores and Jack enjoyed traveling — often combining their love for birdwatching with their trips. She created many stained-glass art pieces now cherished in the homes of family and friends. Her other hobbies included China painting and making rosaries for family and the Missions. After Jack's passing in 2001, Dolores moved to Norfolk to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her eight children – Pamalla Moes, Michael (Judy) Theisen, Paul Theisen, Patrick Theisen, Mary Theisen, Teresa Farler, James Theisen, and William (Heather) Theisen. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren – Laura Kunka, Amy Williams, TJ Moes, Carrie Parrish, Gretchen Riggert, Jeff Theisen, Scott Theisen, Chad Theisen, Jill West, Brian Dunn, Leah Dunn, Christine Theisen, Curt Theisen, Seth Theisen, Tanner Theisen, Parker Theisen – and 37 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Paul (LaNeta) Abler and Leon (Maureen) Abler; sisters Kathryn Voecks, Lois Ann Weber, and Elizabeth (Jim) Miller; and sister-in-law Jodie Abler.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her parents, Walter and Stella (Wright) Abler; brothers Leonard (Collette), Mark, and Robert (Marlene); sister Mary Ann (Robert Crabb); brothers-in-law Roland Voecks and Gerald Weber; daughter-in-law Debbie Theisen; and son-in-law Scott Farler.
