OSMOND — Services for Merlyn F. Kuhl, 82, of Osmond will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Pastor Jacob Tuma will be officiating the services. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Osmond. The organist will be Lori Koehler with the congregational hymns being “Just As I Am,” “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” Pallbearers will be Garret Kuhl, Nick Penlerick, Tyler Foote, Keaton Gracey, Adam Kuhl, Rusty Kuhl, Kevin Wragge, Michael Ruge and John Eichberger.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Osmond Fire Department.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., also at the church in Osmond.

Merlyn passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Osmond General Hospital. Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Osmond is in charge of the arrangements.

Merlyn Floyd Kuhl, son of Arthur and Lucille (White) Kuhl, was born at their home in Wayne County on Nov. 23, 1942. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. He graduated from Pierce High School in 1961. On Feb. 17, 1963, he married Nyla Wragge at Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce. They were blessed with three children: Dennis, Sharon, and Julie. Merlyn became a barber right after graduation and worked in Pierce until 1965 when he started barbering in Osmond. In 1966, the family moved to Osmond.

He continued to barber until he started selling insurance with Farm Bureau.

He later went independent with his agency and created what is now today New Frontier Insurance Agency in Osmond. He was joined later by his son Dennis and grandson, Garret, in the insurance agency. Merlyn loved the outdoors. His favorite activities were hunting, fishing, camping, and playing cards. He was very active in the community and church. He drove the school bus for many years, worked at the bowling alley, and served on the fire department for 45 years. His greatest pleasure in life was his family.

Merlyn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nyla; son, Dennis (Tami) Kuhl of Osmond; daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Wagner of Osmond, and Julie (Mike) Slagle of Osmond; grandchildren, Garret (Leah) Kuhl of Osmond, Brittany (Tyler) Foote of Wayne, Nick (Morgan) Penlerick of Brunswick, and Erica (Keaton) Gracey of Minden; great-grandchildren, Grace and Zoey Foote, Presley Kuhl, Eli Penlerick, and one more great-grandchild on the way this fall; his sister, Marvalene (Larry) Gruchow of Norfolk; brothers, Bill (Judy) Kuhl of Omaha and Warren (Diana) Kuhl of Columbus; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Doris) Wragge, Cheryl (Dale) Nicholas, and Alene (Randy) Eichberger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lucille Kuhl; nephew Eric Kuhl; parents-in-law John and Delores Wragge; brother and sister-in-law Ken and Betty Ruge, and brother-in-law Leon Wragge.
